“This book changed my life.”

This phrase has rolled off my tongue so emphatically over the last few months. I’m beginning to wonder if people are going to stop believing me.

Can every book you read really change your life?

Well, yes, yes it can. It just depends on the book.

When you are reading books that are answering questions you are asking (sometimes you don’t know you’re asking until you are a chapter or 2 in), your perspective, your beliefs, your view will change. And that perspective shift could ultimately change the course of your life.

It’s a beautiful thing. It’s one of the reasons I love books.

Books have the potential to change someone’s life.

Here are two books that have changed my life in the last couple of months:

The Grace of God by Andy Stanley

This book has completely changed my view of God and my understanding of grace. I’ve struggled with grace. While I believed in it, and I understood it in theory, I couldn’t fully grasp it. I couldn’t bridge the God of the Old Testament with the God of the New. I believe wholeheartedly that God never changes. He’s the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. This book as answered so many of those questions for me- things I didn’t know I was asking until he started answering. It’s been a great book to challenge my own person theology in the area of grace.

Love Doesby Bob Goff

This book inspires the fool out of me. It makes me want to run through a field, throw up my hands and spin around in circles with delight in just knowing that God loves me and He loves each and every one of us.

Bob is an incredible storyteller simply because he’s lived the stories. A writer doesn’t make a story great, a great story makes a writer great. And Bob has some remarkable stories to write. Stories that inspire me to do things on a whimsy, plan a big caper, and rejoice in the goodness of God and the goodness of life. There really is evidence of Jesus all around us. Sometimes we just don’t stop long enough to notice.

That’s what’s changed my life. How about you?
