This week was “love week” around here.  I think kids have a way a making you want to go all out for holidays- plus it’s more fun and it feels more worth your time.  Having girls compounds that too- especially for days like Valentine’s Day.  My girls LOVE the color pink and hearts- let’s just say it’s the perfect holiday for them.

On Monday morning I made them heart-shaped pancakes w/ whipped cream and berries.  We all enjoyed a fun breakfast together.  Later that morning, Lily and I got to work making cupcakes for her preschool class the next day.

That evening I was multi-tasking way. too. much. and ended up burning our dinner (for the record, I had never burned our dinner before, I guess there’s a first time for everything).  It was supposed to be chili and (heart-shaped) cornbread, but the bottom of it burned and well, I tried to eat it but it just wasn’t going to be all that enjoyable.  So, Lily and I went down the road and picked up a pizza and we had a fun pizza party together followed with cupcakes and chocolate cake.  Let’s just say we had way too much chocolate, but hey, that’s what Valentine’s Day is really all about right?!?!

I gave the girls each a vase of six pink roses.
The chocolate cake is compliments of Trader Joes.

Filipe brought some flowers home for me to.

On Tuesday, Lily had her Valentine’s party at school and she handed out cards and candy to all of her classmates.  When we were putting them together the night before she kept asking if she could have one.  I kept telling her that they were for her friends, but that she would probably get some in return.  I don’t think she believed me at first, but she was elated the next day when all of her friends put cards (& candy!) in her little bag.

Our house is still full of flowers and chocolate, but most importantly, love for one another.  It’s significant to me that we teach our kids about love and how to show that love to each other.  I think this year it sank in just a little bit more.

“Dear friends, let us continue to love one another, for love comes from God. Anyone who loves is born of God and knows God.  But anyone who does not love does not know God — for God is love.”
