“Give thanks to the Lord for he is good. His love endures forever.” Psalm 136:1
I’ve reflected on this passage throughout the course of this month. Its repetition throughout Scripture forces me to take notice of it. These words were not used flippantly. It’s not a casual cliche to feel good about the Christian faith. These words were used by the people of Israel to declare God’s goodness in every area of life, in all of creation, and in every circumstance.
I Thessalonians 5:18 tells us, “Be thankful in all circumstances…”
I don’t know what you’re facing right now. You may be in a joyful season of celebration, or you may be in a valley of despair. Regardless of what you are experiencing, remember God is good and his love never fails. In the moment of frustration or confusion, God is good. In the moment of crisis, God’s love will not fail you. I believe this to the core of who I am, and my prayer is that if you don’t already, you will too. The simple belief in the goodness of God has the power to transform our whole lives.
Give thanks to the Lord today, in good times and hard times. For He is good. His love endures forever.
